London, 1 October 2025 – Howden announces today the expansion of its renewable energy facility across its network of renewable energy hubs.
The quote and bind platform, which is led by Aviva and fully accredited by Lloyd’s, is exclusive to Howden’s UK retail network. The expansion follows a successful pilot programme with Howden Scotland. The facility underscores Howden’s continued drive for innovation in insurance and supports the UK’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
The facility has a capacity of up to GBP150M per declaration, offers pre-agreed rates and bespoke policy terms, providing Howden’s clients with a competitive and streamlined approach to securing construction and operational insurances for their renewable energy assets. Backed by deep sector knowledge and smart technology, the platform empowers clients to navigate the complexities of renewable energy with speed, confidence and clarity.
The facility offers comprehensive cover across both construction and operational phases for a range of green technologies, including:
- Onshore Wind
- Solar PV
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Hydro Power
Deborah Duss, Head of Strategy for Industry Evolution, commented: “Howden’s renewable energy facility provides the speed of service to our clients that is required to succeed in this very agile and cost competitive industry. The tech solution enables innovation and process automatisation whilst not sacrificing underwriting expertise.”
Matthew Gordon, Underwriting Director – Specialty, Real Estate & Strategic Initiatives at Aviva, added: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Howden on this renewable energy facility. At Aviva, we’re committed to supporting the UK’s transition to a low-carbon economy and this platform is a great example of how smart technology and deep sector expertise can come together to deliver real impact and help the UK get ready for a more sustainable future. The facility’s success so far reflects the strength of our collaboration and the growing demand for streamlined specialist insurance solutions in the renewable energy space”
Howden has recently expanded the offering to include Employers’ and Public Liability, as well as Sabotage and Terrorism cover - with further enhancements for the benefit of clients planned for 2026.
