Howden EMEA joins forces with Sea Shepherd to support the protection of the Mediterranean
Howden EMEA has announced a new partnership with Sea Shepherd Global, the international marine conservation organisation dedicated to protecting ocean biodiversity and preserving marine ecosystems.
As part of this partnership, Howden will support Sea Shepherd Global’s efforts to protect marine biodiversity, preserve marine ecosystems and address key environmental challenges across the Mediterranean.
One example of this work is the Sea Eagle programme, an initiative operating across the Mediterranean to tackle illegal fishing, reduce marine pollution and help safeguard some of the region’s most valuable marine habitats.

Delivering real impact in the Mediterranean
Through its fleet of vessels and specialist crews, Sea Shepherd works on the frontline of marine conservation, protecting wildlife and supporting the recovery of vulnerable ecosystems across the region.
Since 2022, the Sea Eagle programme has helped remove more than 57,000 illegal octopus traps across Italy and Greece and has significantly reduced illegal activity in areas where it maintains a consistent presence.
A shared commitment
Luigi Sturani, CEO of Howden EMEA, said: "Healthy oceans are vital to the future of our planet and the communities that depend on them. That’s why we are partnering with Sea Shepherd, alongside Allianz Group, to support its work protecting marine ecosystems across the Mediterranean."
Alex Cornelissen, CEO of Sea Shepherd Global, said: "Collaboration is essential if we are to address the challenges facing our oceans. The support of committed organisations such as Howden helps us extend our reach and strengthen our efforts to protect marine wildlife and habitats."
Looking ahead
Over the coming months, a range of initiatives will be launched to help colleagues across Howden EMEA learn more about Sea Shepherd’s work and the challenges facing our oceans. These will include information sessions, learning opportunities and regional activities designed to encourage engagement and raise awareness of marine conservation.
This partnership reflects our commitment to using our collective power to support our communities and accelerate solutions to some of the world's most pressing environmental challenges.
