London, 29 April 2025 - Howden, the global insurance intermediary group, today announces the appointment of April McLaughlin as Managing Director, Howden Miami. McLaughlin will establish a new presence for Howden Re in Miami and will integrate and grow Howden’s existing specialty insurance businesses for the benefit of clients in the wider Latin American and Caribbean region.

In this newly created role, McLaughlin will lead Howden Re Miami, which will offer treaty and facultative solutions as Howden Re continues its strong trajectory of international expansion and growth. McLaughlin will also take responsibility for Howden’s existing specialty operations in the region, which covers Central America and the Caribbean, and plays a fundamental role in connecting international markets with Latin America. By working across Howden’s insurance and reinsurance pillars, McLaughlin will leverage the combined expertise of the group.

With a distinguished background in underwriting focused on treaty and facultative reinsurance, McLaughlin joins Howden with over 25 years of insurance industry experience. Since 2020, McLaughlin held the role of Head of Chaucer’s Latin America hub facilitated by Orchid Underwriting, and was previously Head of Latin America Reinsurance at AXA XL (previously Catlin) from 2015.

McLaughlin will report to Sonia Caamaño, CEO, International Growth Markets, and Mario Baotic, Head of International Growth Markets, International Treaty, Howden Re. Max Scagnetti, currently Managing Director Specialty, Howden Miami, will assume the role of Executive Advisor for Miami and LatAm, whilst still reporting to Sonia Caamaño.

Sonia Caamaño, CEO, International Growth Markets, Howden, comments: “April joins us at a pivotal moment for Howden Miami. Over the last seven years, under the expert guidance of Max Scagnetti, we have been building a strong foundation for the business. Combining this with April’s knowledge and expertise, Howden Miami is now firmly positioned to grow and be closer to the clients it serves across specialty insurance, treaty and facultative reinsurance.”

Mario Baotic, Head of Growth Markets, International Treaty, Howden Re, adds: “We are pleased to have established a reinsurance offering for Latin America under April’s leadership as part of our existing Miami Specialty operations. Miami offers a strategic platform that will allow us to deliver reinsurance solutions and to support global clients with operations in the region. April’s appointment represents a key step in our commitment to developing treaty capabilities in Miami, positioning us to offer even greater value to our clients and partners.”

Sarah Hughes, CEO Specialty, Howden, said: “It is fantastic to welcome someone of April’s calibre to Howden. Her experience will support Specialty’s growth across these important regions and further reinforce our standing as a global player of scale and expertise. With April leading the Miami team across Specialty and Reinsurance, we will have an integrated and powerful proposition for clients, insurers and colleagues that will power future growth.”

McLaughlin will join Howden once she has fulfilled her contractual obligations to her current employer.
